There’s a bit of a different and somewhat skewered take on the holidays unfolding on stage at Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place in Chicago.

This new “twisted” musical extravaganza of a show comes courtesy of Dee Snider offering “Dee Snider’s Rock & Roll Christmas Tale,” continuing through Jan. 4. The show features a contorted holiday story mixed in with a lot of hard rockin’ fun.

Snider, lead singer of the popular ’70s, ’80s’ metal band Twisted Sister, is the writer/creator of the show which tells the story of heavy metal bar band Daisy Cutter (which is misspelled as Cuter throughout the show and remains a running joke). The band has been dreaming they’d make it big for the longest time.

The band members end up selling their souls to the devil in exchange for achieving success, but find they’re paying a big price for the fame. While blasting their rock anthems on stage, they soon find they can’t sing anything but Christmas carols.

While the story is silly, audience members who are metal fans or admirers of Dee Snider and Twisted Sister, will no doubt enjoy the musical portion of the show.

Tunes such as “You Can’t Stop Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Silver Bells,” the combo “We’re Not Gonna Take It/O’ Come All Ye Faithful” and “I Wanna Rock” star on the playlist.

Snider also appears in the show as the narrator, who tells the holiday tale from his seat in front of the fireplace. He later steps into the role of an exorcist and then at the show’s conclusion treats fans to a few songs. The metal band frontman can still belt out a tune and his fans will delight in this segment of the show. Cast members that star as Daisy Cutter band mates are also strong rockers.
